Response to some comments

It’s been a while since I have posted anything to the blog, but here are some responses to the common comments left on different blog posts:
  • First I am glad to see that there is a lot of people enjoying the gadget.
  • Second, for those that still have questions about the 64-bit support you can look at my previous post at http://messengergadget.blogspot.com/2009/10/make-this-work-run-32-bit-version-of.html. On a related note, one of my comments might have confused some people. The problem with the 64-bit is not that the gadget update mechanism will not work, but that the gadget won’t refresh (for example, when a user’s status changes to online, the gadget won’t reflect it).
  • About feature requests, I am not actively working in the gadget at the moment. I might work on it again when I have the time. At that time I’ll take into consideration the requests I’ve seen in the blog comments.

  1. it would be nice if the contact list collapsed when you click on it, and a light blue color like the original messenger would be great too. great job!

This is a superb gadget Eric. I've tried a dozen different messenger gadgets, and none of them are as good as yours.

I sincerely hope that when you have the time again to improve this program, you somehow manage to make it work on 64-bit Windows operating systems. I curretly run my sidebar as a 32-bit application just because of this gadget!

  3. I must say that while it's a pretty simple task to do to get it to run well on Win7 it would be just as easy for you to program it into it for Win7 and just have a different, newer version eh. I love the software and idea; I wish the box was bigger and the font color white with the blaack background.

    All in all....

Which version of WLM would you suggest to install for this gadget to work best?

I haven't installed WLM, and from some of your comments I assume some versions have blocked access to this gadget, and this is irreversible.

  5. I love your gadget, but really would like to see an option to turn the white background off (make it transparent w/ white or black text) and have some better top colors (make it less obtrusive, use win7 fonts, etc.) I really like a clean desktop.

    Great work!

I LOVE this gadget! I've been using if for well over, gosh, a year or so? I don't know exactly, but I've been using it a long time. I like it so much that I don't wanna download the new WLM beta until there's a version of this gadget that works with it. I hope - thought I know you're probably quite busy - you plan on creating one that will work for the new WLM Beta version.

Excellent gadget - probably my favorite!!

I installed the gadget but when I startup my computer my WLM 2011 launches too . Can you make an option which will disable the messenger's launching due to the fact that the gadget runs on the desketop ?

    I don't like auto-startup of the WLM 2011
